The World Through the Eyes of John Brennan
A few weeks ago I embarked on a challenge to build a web application that uses data from a variety of volunteer services (like Kiva.org, VolunteerMatch, GlobalGiving, etc.).
People are volunteering, donating, signing petitions, making loans and doing other social actions as we speak — all over the world. My goal was to display this information in such a way that would nudge people to take action immediately. It is quite powerful to see someone taking action in your neighborhood right now! Or perhaps your heart lies in Ghana? You can see actions, like petitions, donations, and new small businesses asking for small loans in Ghana at this very second.
I entered into a competition with a grand prize of $5,000. This would help me to continue building this project. And surprisingly… I won!
Code. Design. Explore. is the blog of John Brennan, a web developer/designer, entrepreneur, and avid world traveler. I currently live in Brooklyn, NY.
I am the Co-Founder of OpenAction and lead Product Development. We are a open platform social enterprise that helps organizations engage with donors, share knowledge with other non profits and empower the community to get involved to create positive impact on our planet.
This blog will mostly be around building cool things, although I will surely include my travel experiences when I am abroad. Feel free to subscribe to a specific category if that is only what interests you. And please connect with me. I always enjoy meeting new, interesting people!

This will allow GrowGhana’s collaborators & partners to keep up with our projects and developments it will help everyone to stop asking “what do you do?” and “How is your project empowering your target?” I think it has real potential, in many areas…

Love it - can see how this could lead to the formation & strengthening of local communities on places like Kiva etc. Well done!
So what happens next with the project? Do you already have not-for-profits lined up? They must be really excited!
